Those who venture behind the paywall and hear my accounts of dangerous White House travel, bear in mind that the Secret Service and the military units assigned to presidential travel have institutional memory. If a country like, oh, I don’t know, Turkey acquires a reputation for being unsafe during previous trips, every time the White House returns, all protection systems will be on high alert.
Based on what I’ve seen in Turkey, the Secret Service was 100 percent correct to take the precautions in Turkey that are now generating partisan criticism.
