I don't have trust in JD's vision. He's speaking from a place of escape, and he made his money in Big Pharma.

IF he's truly moved away from supporting THAT industry, cut ties with that unholy cabal, I'll extend my trust for Rust Belt rehab. But we're NOT ready to pivot and profit, with or without the drill expansion.

Here's why i feel as i do:

My father moved my family from NY to Middletown OH in 1975-6. (Dad got us set up, we followed/moved into our home after school year ended.) I lived some of that Hillbilly Elegy story JD authored, as the original boom/bust/expectation of recovery and dump of Japanese & UK steel occurred which clobbered the midsized, upgraded, almost profitable USA steel companies.

1977 projections made my parents exec-circle group "talk happy" at cocktail parties. Founder's son, Bill Verity Jr's poolhouse contained racks of extra bathing suits for the teenage kids to move to our own after-dinner party so families could participate in BBQ gatherings lasting hours.

After HS, I went off to college but any friends not going to college went to the Mill to work. Dangerous, dirty but well paying labor jobs. Until the 80's cutbacks when double shifts supplanted HALF the workers. Accidents killed a few. Illness grabbed a few more. EPA cleanup settlement for other inevitable problems took decades and squeezed the life from community businesses. Drugs and immigrant gangs have swallowed whole areas.

I visited Middletown in March.

Dear friends live in a run down Midwest town, and i don't think they'll live to see a comeback.

Add this patriotic subsection of our great nation to your prayer list. There are no mountains... But too much to move alone. 🙏
